Why a Dated Healing Journal May Be the Next Right Step for You

Cozy writer desk with a journal, warm cup of tea, and soft morning light

Hello there, my friend! 💛 Grab your favorite cup of tea, pull up a chair, and let’s sit down together for a real, heart-to-heart conversation.

If you have been carrying pain, questions, prayers, lessons, and quiet victories in your heart, this is your reminder: start writing it down. Not someday. Not when life slows down. Now. Right here. Right where you are.

At ShirleySpeaksLive™, we believe healing is not hype. It is holy work. It is daily work. It is honest work. And as we always say: Only Work Works™.

A dated, ongoing healing and transformation journal can become a sacred place between you and God. A place to record what happened. What worked. What did not work. What you learned. What God is showing you. And how your life is changing as you keep saying yes to His way forward.

That matters more than many women realize.

Because when life starts moving fast, details blur. Breakthroughs get forgotten. Patterns hide in plain sight. But a current journal helps you stay awake to your own growth. It helps you see God’s hand. It helps you tell the truth. This is about healing first. Clarity first. Obedience first.

1. A Journal Helps You Tell the Truth About What Happened

Sometimes healing begins with honesty on paper.

Not performance. Not polished language. Just truth.

Write the date. Write what happened. Write what you felt. Write what was said. Write what triggered you. Write what brought peace. When you put real moments into words, you begin to see them clearly instead of carrying them as a blur of emotion.

Scripture reminds us, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32, NIV) Freedom often begins when we stop avoiding the page and start naming what is real before God.

Do not worry about sounding wise. Do not worry about writing beautifully. Just be faithful enough to write truthfully.

2. A Current Journal Shows You What Is Working — And What Is Not

Friend, this part is practical. Deeply practical.

Your journal is not just for emotions. It is also for patterns. Record the prayer habits that strengthened you. Record the boundaries that protected your peace. Record the conversations that drained you. Record the routines that made you feel more grounded in God’s presence.

That kind of record matters.

“Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.” (Lamentations 3:40, NIV) That is a journal verse if I ever heard one. You cannot examine what you never record.

Try simple dated entries like these:

  • What happened today?
  • What helped me today?
  • What did not help me today?
  • What did I learn today?
  • What is God highlighting for me today?

Short. Clear. Honest. Current.

3. A Journal Makes Room for What God Is Showing You

One of the most beautiful parts of journaling is learning to recognize God’s voice in the middle of real life.

Maybe a Scripture keeps coming up. Maybe a pattern is being exposed. Maybe the Lord is calling you into deeper rest, stronger boundaries, quicker obedience, or bolder faith. Write that down. Date it. Keep it where you can return to it.

This is not about living in the past. This is about tracking the new thing God is doing as He leads you forward.

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19, NIV) A healing journal can help you perceive it.

When you review even one month of dated entries, you may discover that God has been speaking more consistently than you realized.

4. A Journal Gives You a Record of Growth

Growth can feel invisible when you are living it day by day.

That is why dated journaling matters. It gives you a way to look at the fruit. Not to glorify old pain. Not to camp in old stories. But to witness movement. To recognize wisdom. To see how God has been reshaping your thoughts, choices, relationships, and responses.

Scripture says, “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.” (Habakkuk 2:2, NIV) Write it plainly. Write it faithfully. Write it while it is fresh.

A few practical ways to keep your journal current:

  • Put the date at the top of every entry.
  • Write in it at the same time each day if possible.
  • Keep one section for events and one for spiritual insight.
  • End each entry with one action step for tomorrow.
  • Include one Scripture that anchors you in truth.
  • Leave space to note answered prayers and visible change.

That is how healing becomes traceable. Step by step. Line by line.

5. Today’s Journal May Become Tomorrow’s Testimony

Let me say this clearly: your journal is valuable.

It is already valuable because it is helping you heal. It is helping you listen. It is helping you become. That is enough.

Still, some women will one day look back at those dated entries and realize they have preserved a testimony, a teaching, or a message that could bless someone else. If that season ever comes, praise God. But do not rush there. Do not force there. Let healing have its full work first.

And yes. I’ll say it again. Only Work Works™.

The work here is not performing for people. The work is staying present with God. The work is writing down what He is revealing and how you are changing as you walk with Him.

Ready to Begin Your Journal?

Here is your next step, my friend. Simple. Sacred. Doable.

Start today with one dated page.

Write:

  • what happened,
  • what worked,
  • what did not work,
  • what you learned,
  • what God is showing you,
  • and how your life is changing.

Then close that entry with prayer and one Scripture.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3, NIV) Keep showing up. Keep listening. Keep writing. Healing is not built in a day, but daily faithfulness matters. Every. Single. Time.

In the meantime, if you want faith-based encouragement, biblical growth, and a safe place to keep doing the work, we’d love to welcome you into the S.S.L. Circle community and classes.

Love and prayers,
